/ signal shed
The Signal Shed is located within walking distance of the Eagle Cap Wilderness Preserve in Northeastern Oregon and acts as a short-term residence and outdoor adventure outpost. To limit the project’s environmental impact, it was built using recycyled windows and hardware and reclaimed siding and has no traditional utility connections.
To sit as quietly in the landscape as possible, the structure rests on a series of piers and appeaers burned black on its exterior to hide in the forest’s shadows. Operable rainscreen shutters secure the windows for extended off-season storage. A large sliding door provides seamless indoor-outdoor living and views of Wallowa Lake and its namesake and inspriation, Signal Mountain. This mountain, now named Mt. Howard after the general who battled Cheif Joseph, was originally used by the local Nez Perce tribe for sending smoke signals with fires set atop its peak.
